The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) is proud to announce that it has been officially distinguished as an “A-Festival“—a designation for international film festivals demonstrating the highest international impact—by the Fédération Internationale des Associations des Producteurs de Films (FIAPF; English: International Federation of Film Producers Associations; fiapf.org).
FIAPF is the leading international organization dedicated to advancing the global film production industry, protecting copyright structures, and safeguarding creative content. As the governing body for international film festivals, FIAPF is responsible for the accreditation and regulation of festival standards worldwide.
In response to the evolving needs of the global film industry, FIAPF recently revamped its accreditation system, introducing a streamlined, future-ready framework.
Key updates include:
• A single unified list, replacing the previous four-category system.
• An agnostic approach to programming, with no distinction by format, genre, or curation model.
• A reinforced focus on trust between festivals and the industry, and between festivals, consistent with FIAPF’s longstanding quality and reliability standards.
• Annual collection of quantitative and qualitative data from accredited festivals, highlighting their individual and collective contributions to films and the industry.
Under this new framework, six new festivals were added to the FIAPF-accredited list. The full list of accredited festivals now includes 49 festivals across 29 countries and five continents. Among accredited festivals, those demonstrating the highest international impact are distinguished as A-Festivals. This distinction is determined by a tangible databased system drawing on both quantitative and qualitative data provided by festivals. Based on its performance and results from 2024 and 2025, TIFF has been recognized for its high operational quality and international presence, earning the “A-Festival” status.
Key facts and figures from all accredited festivals are now publicly available on FIAPF’s website (https://fiapf.org/accredited-festivals/), which now becomes the central entry point to understand and navigate the global festival circuit.
With this prestigious accreditation, TIFF reaffirms its commitment to the development of the global film industry and will continue to strive for excellence in enhancing the industry’s international standing.
